Meatballs with Chickpeas
Ingredients
1 lb. Ground beef
1 Yellow onion, grated
½ cup Flour
2 tsp. Salt
1 tsp. Black pepper
4 tbsp. Butter
1 tbsp. Olive oil
1 cup Water, boiled
1 cup Chickpeas, boiled
3 tbsp. Tomato paste
1 Lemon, juiced
2cloved Garlic, minced
Parsley leaves, chopped
Instructions
Combine the ground beef with onion, salt, black pepper and flour. Prepare meatballs the size of hazelnuts. Melt 2 tbsp. of butter in a skillet, and fry the meatballs, and then take out onto paper towel. In a large pot melt the rest of the butter and olive oil, sauté the tomato paste, and then add the meatballs, continue sautéing. Add the chickpeas, then water and cook until the meatballs have softened. Finally add the lemon juice and garlic, cook for another 5 minutes, and take off the heat. Serve with parsley sprinkled on top.
İzmir Köfte
Izmir Style Ground Beef Patties
Ingredients
1 lb. Ground beef
1 Yellow onion, grated
1 Egg
2 slices Stale white bread, crumbled
2 tsp. Salt
1 tsp. Black pepper
½ bunch Parsley, finely chopped
2 Potatoes, peeled and cut into wedges
2 Tomatoes, peeled, grated
(or 1 tbsp. Tomato paste)
2-3 tbsp. Olive oil
Oil for frying
Instructions
Heat the oven to 320F. Combine the ground beef with onions, salt, black pepper and egg. Knead for 5 minutes. Make long and plump (finger shaped) patties. Heat the olive oil in the skillet and fry the meatballs until browned. Heat the oil for frying and then fry the potatoes, transfer onto a paper towel. Lay the patties and potatoes alternating in an ovenproof dish. Add the grated tomatoes, (if using the tomato paste, mix it with a ½ cup of water) and bake in the oven for about 30 minutes, until the patties are fully cooked.

Meatballs with Potatoes
Ingredients
1 lb. Ground beef
2 slices of Stale white bread, crumbled
1 Onions, grated
2 cloves of Garlic, minced
3 tbsp. Salt
1tbsp. Black pepper
½ tsp. Cumin
3 Potatoes,peeled and cut into wedges
3 Long green peppers, sliced
4 tbsp. Olive oil
1 tbsp. Tomato paste
½ water, boiled
½ tsp. Oregano
Instructions
Combine the ground beef with bread, onions, garlic, 2 tsp. salt, black pepper and cumin, knead for 10 minutes. Make oval shaped patties. Pour 2 tbsp. of olive oil to the bottom of a wide pot. Put the patties, top with potatoes and green peppers. Add 1 tsp. of salt and the rest of the olive oil, cover and cook over low heat for 20-25 minutes. Meanwhile combine tomato paste with boiled water and oregano and pour this into the pot during cooking and cook until the patties have fully cooked and the potatoes have softened.
